Talk to Escanor by voice on your phone and computer: what you can say, how "Hey Escanor" works, and what stays on your device.

You can talk to Escanor instead of typing.

Ways to talk

  • Dictation: tap the microphone in a message box and speak; your words are typed for you to check and send.
  • Voice mode: tap the waveform button (or the movable Escanor button) for a spoken conversation. Escanor listens, works, and speaks its answer. Tap again or say "stop" to end it.
  • "Hey Escanor" (Android): say it with the app closed and Escanor opens straight into listening. See below.

The movable button can be dragged anywhere and is on every screen of the phone app.

What you can say

You sayWhat happens
"Open YouTube", "open Maps"Opens the app on the phone, or the website if there is no app.
"Call Mom", "call Tanishq"Finds the contact (spelling and speech mistakes are tolerated), asks if two match, then calls or opens the dialer.
"Set an alarm for 7", "timer for 10 minutes"Sets it (Android).
"Torch on", "volume up", "mute"Does it on the phone (the torch also works on iPhone).
"Open Wi-Fi settings", "Bluetooth", "display", "battery"Opens that settings screen (Android).
"Go home", "scroll down", "tap Send", "what is on my screen"Phone control, with the Accessibility build (Android).
"On my computer, open the editor"Sent to your paired computer, which applies its registered capability and execution policy.
Anything elseGoes to the assistant as a question or a task.

Small talk ("how are you") is answered at once. Longer work is handed to the assistant and the answer arrives when it is ready. Spoken answers use a computer-generated voice, and the answers themselves are AI-generated.

"Hey Escanor" on Android

  1. Open Settings > Voice and phone control and switch on Say "Hey Escanor". The first time it downloads a small voice model (about 40 MB).
  2. A notification shows while it listens, as Android requires. You can switch it off any time.
  3. Heard from another app or the home screen, it shows a "Hey! I'm listening" notification to tap. With phone control switched on (the -phone-control APK), Escanor opens straight away instead. It never draws over other apps.
  4. Use Try it to test: tap it, press Home, and in six seconds Escanor opens as if you had said the phrase.

Privacy

  • The words "Hey Escanor" are recognised on your phone by a small model. Nothing is sent until it hears them, and a notification shows while it listens.
  • After you start talking, your speech is turned into text by the phone's speech service or, on the desktop, by an on-device model. The text goes to the assistant like any message you type.
  • Phone control reads what is on screen at that moment, using Android Accessibility, to find a button or answer you. That text stays on the phone and is not stored or sent to Escanor. Still, avoid using phone control on screens showing secrets.
  • Contacts are read on the phone only when you ask to call someone by name; they are not uploaded.

Prerequisites and recovery

Grant microphone permission to test dictation or voice mode. Android phone-control operations additionally require the phone-control variant and the Accessibility service; the standard APK does not expose those controls. iOS capabilities differ: see iPhone.

Try a safe command such as “open battery settings” on Android, or dictate a short message without sending it. Verify the recognized text before sending a task that could make changes. A successful wake word does not prove that the assistant or paired computer is reachable.

If speech is missing, check microphone permission, audio input, foreground state and connectivity. For Android wake-word behavior, check that the listening service's notification remains present and that the optional overlay permission is enabled for opening the app. Battery management and OS restrictions can affect background behavior. Stop voice mode and restart it if the recognition session fails.
