Troubleshooting

The usual problems and what fixes them: being signed out, empty integrations, Play Protect, notifications, wake word and pairing.

I keep getting signed out

Update to the latest app and sign in once more. See Accounts and sign-in. If it still happens on one device, check that the phone is not restricting the app in the background and that you are not signing in on another device with "sign out everywhere".

An integration shows 0 projects or repositories

  1. Open the integration. If it says Needs reconnect, reconnect it.
  2. For Vercel teams, connect with an API token and add the team slug (see Integrations).
  3. Make sure the token can read what you expect. Reconnect with broader read access if not.
  4. Wait a minute and refresh: the first load pulls everything.

"Needs reconnect" keeps coming back

The provider is refusing the renewal. Reconnect and, when the provider asks, grant offline access or a long-lived token. A few providers shorten tokens on their side; reconnecting resets it.

The assistant says there is no model available

A model availability error can reflect service availability, routing or the selected model. Try again in a moment, or pick a specific model from the list it offers. If it happens often, tell us through Support.

Both are expected for an app installed from a file. Chrome warns about every app file downloaded outside an app store: choose Download anyway. Play Protect says "App scan recommended" because Escanor is not on Google Play yet, so it has not seen the app before: choose Scan app, and Install when it says This app looks safe. Step by step in Install.

"App blocked to protect your device" when installing

Play Protect blocks apps installed from a file that declare an Accessibility service, which is only the Phone control APK (remote-harness-<version>-phone-control.apk); in some countries, including India, Android refuses to install it from a browser or file manager at all. Install the Standard remote-harness-<version>.apk instead: it has no Accessibility service, no drawing over other apps, no call permission and no full-screen alerts, and it is signed with Escanor's release key. On Samsung phones, Auto Blocker (Settings > Security and privacy) refuses every app installed from a file; switch it off to install. Phone control installs without this block once Escanor is on Google Play.

"App not installed" or "package conflicts with an existing package"

The phone has 1.19 or older, which was signed with a different key. Uninstall Escanor once, then install the current APK. 1.20 and later update in place.

Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm or my bank app says another app can see or control the screen

That is an Accessibility service being on: Escanor's phone control, or another app's. Escanor switches its phone control off by itself when a payment or banking app opens and shows Phone control is off so ... works; close the payment app and open it again. You can also use Switch phone control off in Settings > Voice and phone control. If the warning stays, check Android's Settings > Accessibility for other apps that are switched on. The standard APK never triggers this.

Accessibility is greyed out ("Controlled by restricted setting")

Open Escanor's App info, tap the three-dot menu at the top right and choose Allow restricted settings. If the option is missing, tap Escanor once in Accessibility settings, close the message, and look again. Then switch Escanor on.

"Hey Escanor" does nothing

  • Check it is switched on and the notification "Listening for Hey Escanor" is showing.
  • Outside the app it shows a "Hey! I'm listening" notification to tap; with phone control on, Escanor opens straight away instead. Use Try it to test the opening step separately from the listening step.
  • Some phones stop background apps aggressively. Exempt Escanor from battery optimisation in Android's settings.
  • Say it clearly, close to the phone, in a quiet place. See Voice.

Notifications do not arrive

Allow notifications for Escanor in Android's settings, and make sure the Alerts channel is not silenced. After a phone restart, open the app once.

Pairing a computer fails

  • Both devices must be signed in to the same account.
  • The code expires after five minutes: make a new one.
  • If the computer was running an older version, update it first.
  • On the same Wi-Fi is fastest, but pairing and use also work over the internet through the relay.

Payment went through but my plan did not change

Open Billing (or Plan and billing in the phone app) and refresh. If it still shows the old plan, email support@escanor.in from your account email with the Razorpay payment ID from your receipt. If the plan cannot be activated, you get a full refund. Do not send card details, UPI PIN or OTPs.

The desktop app shows a generic icon

Update to version 0.7.1 or later. Earlier builds did not tell the desktop which launcher entry the window belongs to.

Still stuck

Use Support and include what you did, what you expected and what you saw, plus the app version (Settings > About).

Downloads do not load

“Availability could not be checked” means the release metadata failed to load. Use Try again or the public release index. “Not released for v…” means that product release exists but the selected format does not. Choose a different available platform/format or inspect an explicitly older release; do not rename another platform's file.

For Linux packaging/FUSE and iOS signing problems, see Updates and installation. For a first-launch crash, record the package filename, version, architecture, OS and a redacted error. Native modules must match the operating system and processor.

A request says a session or usage limit was reached

Record the exact message, affected screen, HTTP status and app version without tokens. Check session state and plan usage separately. If refresh is refused, sign in again; for quota/rate limits, wait or review the plan; for a network failure, restore connectivity.

Need help? Contact support with a redacted error and the affected version.
